Daily Devotionals
The majority of believers use devotionals
as part of their regular quiet time. For
most of us, at the end of a year spent with
a different devotional scripture and thought
each day, it’s impressive to remember
even a dozen of the scriptures. While devotionals
are good and useful tools for navigating
Bible study, which can easily be overwhelming
and hard to approach, how much of what we
read is actually sticking? How much of the
Word have we digested at the end of a year?
Simply reading the words provides only a
small portion of the benefit we are meant
to receive from scripture. Most of our growth
comes when we have hidden the Word in our
hearts (Psalm 119:11). Look Again 52 was
designed because we had the same problems,
and we wanted a solution. The concept is
simple: one scripture, every day, each week
– for one year. You can read more
about these daily devotions here. |

Bible
Studies
On the 4th Friday of each month, at 7:00 p.m.,
we are studying the book of Hebrews.
"Long ago God spoke to our ancestors
in many and various ways by the prophets,
but in these last days he has spoken to us
by a Son" begins the book of Hebrews.
Please join us as we seek to understand and
grow through this word from God. It is a book
of deep theology that helps bind both Old
and New Testaments. It is a book of pastoral
care that desires the Church to grow in maturity
and wisdom. The book of Hebrews weaves a beautiful
tapestry of theology and exhortation which
we as the Church of today need just as much
as the Church of the past. This study will
begin in January and will be taught by Samuel
Weems. If you are interested in joining please
contact Samuel Weems or Mary Ealy for more
information.

Each
Sunday, two adult groups meet to study a Bible-centered
study. One group uses the Presbyterian
Curriculum, The Present Word, and currently
this focuses on The New Testament Community.
One of the discussions in October will be
from Acts 2:5-13, how people responded to
the signs of God’s Holy Spirit. God
communicates in a unified voice to people
fractured into various languages and dialects.
The Holy Spirit empowers the disciples to
proclaim and praise God’s mighty saving
acts in Jesus. Peter declares in Acts 2:38
that the last days have begun in Jesus’
birth and will conclude with Jesus’
return. He will conclude with a call to repent
for the forgiveness of sins.
|
 |
The
other adult class, Crosstalk,
currently studies the Old Testament books
of the prophets. Presently, they are studying
the book of Hosea. They seek to see the Bible
prophesies revealed in the New Testament as
they discuss the meaning of these books in
light of today’s moral dilemmas, daily
life, political climate, and relationships.
Each class is taught by a class member in
rotation and the class struggles together
to find truth. Here are samples of the questions:
Where do many of today’s leaders turn
for powerful help as a substitute for God?
What sort of gain tempts you to compromise
your loyalty to Christ? What sometimes makes
a lie more attractive than the truth?

The
Presbyterian Women engage in the
HORIZON’S Bible Study from a magazine
produced by the Presbyterian Church auspices.
This year the study is entitled Jubilee! Luke’s
Gospel to the Poor. Nancy Fuleihan, who teaches
the study to both circles is excited about
the content and how well it aligns with other
church Bible studies this year. Lesson One
will begin with the October Circle Meetings
of both Faith and Grace Circles (check calendar).
This in-depth study continually asks women,
“Who is Jesus to YOU?” As always,
the circles pray earnestly for each other
and support each other’s work. The Gospel
of Luke seeks to teach us how to be Christians.

The Men’s
Ministry,
Racing Toward Armageddon: The Three
Great Religions and the Plot to End the
World
In Racing Toward Armageddon, Michael Baigent,
the New York Times bestselling author of
The Jesus Papers and Holy Blood, Holy Grail,
exposes the conspiracy of religious extremists
in the Holy Land and their efforts to bring
about the end of the world in our lifetime.
Baigent expose the many diverse, public,
and clandestine figures who are driving
this perilous messianic message forward,
and poses a pressing question: can we really
afford to remain oblivious much longer?
Come join us every Thursday
morning at 7:30am. |

Society of St.
Andrew's Gleaning
The Society of St. Andrew's network uses
volunteers to glean nutritious produce from
farmers' fields and orchards after the harvest.
This food instead of being left behind to
rot is delivered to those in need. College
Park Presbyterian Church has had a history
of working with the Society of St. Andrews
and found these events to be enjoyable ways
to help provide for the community. Please
contact Don Wadsworth or the Society of
St. Andrew's website
for more information. You can also go to
the Society of St. Andrew's calendar
to check out upcoming gleanings to participate
in.
